In a Rut...

Every once in a while, I find myself in a rut. I'll start two or three projects, but never complete them because nothing comes to me. You know how your child comes in the kitchen and just stares in the refrigerator, looking for something, but finds nothing? That's me! I'll stare at a particular pendant for days and see nothing but the pendant, or I'll pull out a selection of beads and they lay there for days like crayons that have fallen out of the Crayola box. During times like this, I feel as though I've completely run out of ideas, and know that it's time to rejuvenate my creative kin.

What usually helps me get out of this mood is a quiet house, music, my drawing pad and a few great art and decorating books and/or fashion magazines. One of my favorite websites to visit for color ideas is Bill Atkinson Photography (picture borrowed below). He has some of the most amazing inspirational photos on his site.

Also, Music relaxes me and looking through books and magazines for natural settings, art and color, brings my creative side back to life. I have a partially free weekend coming up and I already know what I'm going to do.

What do you do, to get your creative juices flowing again?

Unveiling and stuck,
Dee

Dee, I live in a rural area, so I like to put my headphones on and go for a long walk. I absorb it all - the texture of tree bark, the colors of leaves, shapes of flowers/branches. I slow down and pay attention to detail - big change from my usual 90 mph pace!

I find nature so inspirational. I also find my walks help to clear my mind enough for new ideas to pop in.

Great thread!

I hate that "artist's block"! I think we all get it from time to time...music always seems to help me. It can just be so frustrating when you can't create!

I agree Maria, there is so much inspiration in Nature. Think about it, if we stop and pay attention to things in nature, we really don't have to come up with color combination's on our own..they are right in our face.

I agree Tara, I can sit sometimes for hours and come up with nothing!
